Low Water is a game by Balboa Studios on Robinhood Chain. You play with heroes. The first tribe is the Wallborn — mint opens tonight.

The Wall

The sea went out

The sea went out one night and did not return. Every retreat since has uncovered a new shelf of seabed. On the one piece of coast the water never covered stands the Seawall, a wall older than any kingdom. The sea left its giants behind, the Stranded, and every week one of them comes up the slope and puts its whole weight against the Wall. The Wallborn are the first to hold the stone with you. Others are out there below the Wall. So far the Wall has held, and every morning that it does is a morning someone held for.

The Wall does not need you to win. It needs you to be there.

A saying of the Seawall Keepers
  • One Wall

Older than any kingdom. The one piece of coast the water never covered.

  • One giant a week

The Stranded are what the sea left behind. Every week one of them climbs the slope.

  • Wallborn first

The first heroes on the stone. Others are out there below the Wall.

The Stranded

What the sea left behind

The Strand left great crabs the size of ferries, wearing wrecks. Hullback was the first to reach the Wall. The Squatter Shell wears the Low Streets. The Holdfast claims the slope.

The prologue giant · the first to reach the Wall

Hullback

Element: StoneWeak to: Breaker, Wedge

It came out of the dark wearing a ferry for a shell, and the drowned were still in its cabins. It did not stop at the Wall. For seven nights it threw its whole weight against the Gate, and the stone groaned like a ship going down. Forty keepers held the bars. Eleven came home. On the eighth morning it went still, and the Keepers walked it back to the water and named it for the hull.

Three phases

  1. The hull cracks and a cargo of lanterns spills down the slope
  2. It sheds the stern and moves lighter and faster
  3. It sets its whole weight against the Gate and the stone groans

Hull PlateLeaves its Scale: Hull Plate

The rival of the Wallborn

The Squatter Shell

Element: StoneGrade: giant

It took the old customs house in a night, and wore it. The chimney still smoked with a fire nobody had lit. The families of Wallhaven went up the Wall stair with what they could carry and watched their streets walk away on eight legs. Every house it takes, it keeps. Every house it keeps is one more roof on its back, and one more family on the stair.

Where it comes from

The Low Streets of Wallhaven, under the Wall.

The anchor crab of Splinter Shore

Ballast

Element: TideWeak to: Anchor

It could shed the stones and be quick. It keeps them, because it has come to stay. Every swing of the anchor brings the ballast down like hail, and those who watch Splinter Shore learned to count the swings from the sound of the chain. What it plants, it holds. Where its anchor goes down, the shore does not move again.

Three phases

  1. It swings the anchor and the ballast stones fall like hail
  2. It drops the stones in a ring and stands in the middle
  3. It plants the anchor in the sand and will not be moved

Ballast StoneLeaves its Scale: Ballast Stone

A Titan of the flats

The Holdfast

Element: StoneGrade: Titan

It claimed everything between the Wall and the horizon, and it did it slowly, so slowly that two posts had stood on ground it already owned before they understood. A crab as large as a hill, claws held forward like a gate, a flag stuck in its shell that no one planted.

Where it comes from

The Salt Flats, past the Long Bones.

When a Stranded goes still at the Wall it leaves its Scale.

The raid

One giant a week, everyone on the stone

Each week one of the Stranded reaches the Wall. The whole guild stands against it together, and the week is won or lost on the stone. No hit is left to luck. A strike timed well hits harder than one timed badly, and Auto plays the day for you at a steady hit, a little under a Perfect.

  1. Pick five

Each day a player can send up to five heroes to the Wall. A hero strikes three times a day.

  2. Read the board

The day's weakness changes. A party that matches it hits harder.

  3. Bring it down together

The giant's strength is set from how strong last week's heroes were, so a bigger or stronger roster never makes the fight easier for the guild.

  4. Hold for seven days

A party of five strikes 15 times a day and 105 times in the seven days. The giant is tuned so that a guild that plays every day wins most weeks and loses some.

  • 3strikes per hero, per day
  • 5heroes per day, at most
  • 7days to bring it down

Target The target win rate and every number here are design targets from our own simulation, not a promise.

Heroes and Mark

A hero shows what it is

Three things decide how a hero plays: its Class, its Element and its Mark. Each one is drawn on the hero, so the party can be read from the Wall.

  • Class

Anchor, Breaker, Wedge, Conduit, Mender or Seeker. It sets the hero's job in the party and is shown by what it holds.

    Shown by the held object

  • Element

Tide, Ember, Stone, Gale or Spark. It decides which days the hero fits the weakness and is shown by the sky behind it.

    Shown by the background

  • Mark

Low, Mid, High or Flood. It is the only part of a hero's looks that changes how hard it hits, and it is shown by its aura.

    Shown by the aura

  • Tide
  • Ember
  • Stone
  • Gale
  • Spark

Mark

Proposal Proposal, not final. Every hero hits harder by its Mark.

  • Low Mark

    115%

    No aura

  • Mid Mark

    120%

    No aura

  • High Mark

    127%

    The tribe's own aura

  • Flood Mark

    135%

Flood Glow and a gold frame

Levels: a hero goes to level 20. Each level above the first adds one hundredth of the hit, and the level stays with the hero when it changes hands.

Some Wallborn heroes are drawn by hand, one by one.

Gear

Wear what you find

Gear is found by playing: on expeditions, in the wrecks of the Strand, and from the Stranded that go still at the Wall. Whatever a hero wears, you see.

  • Wallborn colours

Amber for the Wallborn. The Chairmaker's Work-Gear shows on the hero.

  • Found, never sold by us

Gear comes from play: expeditions, wrecks and the Forge. The studio sells none. A piece stays in the game until you claim it to your wallet, and you pay the small network fee to do so.

  • Yours once claimed

Every claimed piece belongs to one collection, Low Water Gear, an ERC-1155 on Robinhood Chain. Once it is in your wallet it moves like any other item.

  • Used up at the Forge

Three pieces of one quality become one of the next. A Scale appears when its Stranded goes still. Socketing a Scale uses it up.

  • A hard cap

All Gear together adds at most 200 power a week and 300 a day. The cap is the same for every hero, so Gear never makes the fight easier for the guild.

The OG Pass

The Pass and the game

Five OG Pass cards fanned out: Jade in front, then Venom, Silver, Gold and Holo

What the pass does here

The OG Pass is the Balboa Studios pass. It is not a hero and not an item. It comes in five materials: Jade, Venom, Silver, Gold and Holo.

  • The game is separate from the pass. You play with heroes.
  • It reserves a spot in the Wallborn mint: holders mint first tonight, free, max 2 per wallet.
  • It never changes how hard a hero hits.

See the mint section for tonight's times.

Who can play: anyone holding a Wallborn. A pass on its own does not play.
